AIMLABS WEB PLATFORM

Background

Aimlabs.com was created as a social hub designed to heighten both your gaming and training experiences. One part social media platform one part game coaching outlet, Aimlabs.com featured free game-specific courses from your favorite pros, content from top coaches and players, sharing your own Aimlabs replay. An innovative new "bounty" system allowed users to create coaching requests that could be fulfilled by any coach with the exchange for premium currency.

Goals

From the onset the intent with Aimlabs.com was to create a space for gamers of all types to share, learn and grow their skills. With the "bounty" system we encouraged users to not only train for first person shooters but any game and any situation.

Challenge

With such a wide market and an even broader feature set it was a huge organizational undertaking. Coaching content, premium currency funnels and training stats from the Aimlabs trainer all had to be contained on a singular platform with an easily digestible navigation.

The education piece behind a platform with so many disparate and intertwining features was a difficult task for marketing and onboarding.

My Impact

As Senior graphic designer at State Space I was initially tasked with creating a visual style for the new Aimlabs web platform. However as the scope of the project grew I went on to create layout wire frames, visual assets such as thumbnails and ui illustrations.

Social feed

The main feed of Aimlabs.com was designed as a catch all funnel for content from professional coaches, game news, and user generated content.

Users had the ability to curate content by subscribing to their favorite coaches and creators as well as the ability to comment on, like and reward posts with premium rewards purchased with currency.

One feature that was ultimately scrapped was the ability to create posts for standard users. The intent behind this decision was to keep the feed focused on improvement and gaming content. We did not want to compete with traditional social media platforms and felt this would not only help differentiate the product but also keep the focus on learning and growth.

Premium content

Creating an account on Aimlabs.com and engaging with its systems was a free experience. However, there were several benefits that were restricted to users who had not signed up for an Aimlabs+ subscription or purchased premium currency.

Premium users enjoyed,
• previously locked premium coaching vods
• the ability to react to content with emoji reactions
• a limited number of "bounty" requests for coaches

Premium funnels were strategically placed as prompts in the social feed, log in page and locked content displayed in feeds.

Currency and Ranked badge illustrations

I was tasked early on with illustrating assets that enticed users to purchase Aimlabs premium currency "aim tokens". The intent was to help users understand the jump quantity between tiers and encourage spending beyond the smallest amount, while still giving the impression that all tiers were of value.

Shortly after the launch of the social systems on Aimlabs.com we were able to integrate personal stats from users Aimlabs PC accounts, this included users ranked status. I was asked to give the ranked icons a new style that more closely matched the style of current FPS games like Riot Games Valorant and Activision's Call of Duty series.
